Location: Remote, various locations throughout California
Salary Range: The starting salary is based on Education and Experience - Initial Placement is between $82,547.00 - $108,249.00.
Position Overview
The Assessment and Open Education Librarian position supports Calbright College’s mission of offering competency-based programs for the adult learner through high-impact andrological practices in online, skills-based curriculum and assessment. The position ensures alignment to high-quality assessment and instructional materials (HQIM) in multiple subject areas that are openly accessible to support effective teaching and learning. The position assists with designing, tagging, and organizing Calbright’s skill inventory, assessment, and content repositories.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
The duties below are representative of the role and are intended to cover only some of the duties performed within the scope of work.
- Create an inventory and meta-tagging schema for assessments, student-facing resources, and open educational resources
- Responsible for skill, competency, and assessment management.
- Collaborates with team members to evaluate, select, and apply metadata schemas and data elements to provide description and organization to assessment and educational resource collections.
- Participates in developing an assessment inventory tagged to institutional and nationally identified skills and competencies.
- May act as project manager or consultant for creating and managing descriptive and other metadata for selected projects and in collaboration with other departments.
- Collects metrics with the ability to structure ambiguity into actionable, value-added plans.
- Maintains active communication with the Dean of Learning Innovation, Assessment and Curriculum Faculty, and Instructional Design Faculty.
- Assists with identifying open education resources to support program development.
- Organizes and manages program-specific resources in collaboration with discipline-level faculty, instructional designers, and subject matter experts.
- Support student questions and inquiries to identify resources appropriately
- Other duties may also be assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of relevant aspects of library operations, including an understanding of contemporary library practices, trends, and emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated broad knowledge of library discovery environments, office automation software, and online resources.
- Ability to rapidly learn and implement cataloging principles adopted by the department.
- Ability to learn, analyze, and utilize existing and emerging metadata standards
- Strategic thinker and creative problem-solver with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Highly diplomatic and able to work effectively with people at all organizational levels.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate complex ideas into operational solutions.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills and familiarity with data-driven decision-making.
- Flexible and adaptable to change. Able to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities under pressure.
- Experience delivering large projects and engaging a cross-functional team, especially in remote settings.
- Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, staff, and faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s in library, library science, and information science, or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries or a combination of education and recent relevant experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in Adult Education supporting instruction and understanding of open educational resources.
- Experience with utilizing meta-tagging schema and developing a resource repository.
Working Conditions and Travel
- Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies in person and remotely. Calbright College has administrative offices in Sacramento available for use. When working remotely, employees should be able and willing to use digital communication tools as used by the college and have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods.

- Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing primarily sedentary work. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment. Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
