OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly motivated, forward-thinking energy technology enthusiast with experience in the energy industry to join the Module Engineering group of FuelCell Energy where you will be responsible for developing and optimizing commercial fuel cell and module components and systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all related engineering and analysis work.
- Responsible for module component layout for optimal flow/operation.
- Coordinate closely with module Project Lead Engineer, BOP and Technology organizations to ensure flow/pressure/thermal performance requirements are considered in the design and conduct/participate in testing and validation of such.
- Develop concepts and module component layouts using 3D Solid Modeling. Conduct concept feasibility testing.
- Plans and oversees validation testing on new and modified designs.
- Understand the performance of legacy designs and apply lessons learned to develop next generation advances with the R&D and manufacturing team.
- Simultaneously work with manufacturing to ensure current design intents are realized in manufactured designs.
- Lead efforts to develop, produce, and characterize new dielectric materials and processes for improving existing materials.
- Prepare and present reports of findings.
- Update design documentation.
- Gain component familiarity to serve as a fuel cell module component engineering expert and key support member on a fully integrated team including engineering, quality, supply chain, manufacturing, and technology R&D.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: BS degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or relevant discipline, MS Preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 3+ years of relevant commercial work experience is required.
CANDIDATE MUST HAVE / BE DEMONSTRABLE KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE IN:

- Autodesk Inventor 3d Design Software
- Solid Mechanics
- Sheet Metal Design
- Sheet Metal Fabrication
- Mechanical Drawing Reading and Creation

PREFERRED (BUT NOT REQUIRED) SUPPLEMENTAL EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with reacting flows and/or combustion kinetics modeling experience a strong plus.
- Experience with materials, gas flows, and equipment at high temperature (~1000F) preferred.
- Experience in field of batteries, fuel cells, or chemical reactor mechanical design
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience
- FMEA, burner design, electrochemical/chemical plant design
- Practical manufacturing / manufacturability experience on welded sheet metal fabrications
- FEA/CFD experience
- Experience with design optimization software (e.g., HEEDs, ANSYS Design Explorer)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must be able to work in the office environment.
- Be able and willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirator, and other PPE as required.
- Able to distinguish color.
- Travel: occasional domestic travel (10% travel) - including travel between Torrington and Danbury, CT locations.
