Job Description

What does a CDL Laborer do?

  • Responsible for assisting the Equipment Operators and Foreman with essential tasks.
  • Responsible for unloading and loading equipment.
  • Digging holes
  • Locating existing utilities
  • Preparing cable routes
  • Feeding cable
  • Securing the job site
  • Placing signs

No Experience Necessary! As a CDL Laborer there will be “on the job” training to learn how to operate equipment, read prints and to understand all phases of utility construction while performing manual labor on the job site.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Work around located utilities.
  • Expose existing utilities by hand-digging.
  • Prepare cable route.
  • Compact trench lines.
  • Train on equipment operation and print reading.
  • Take direction first from foremen and second from operators.
  • Load and unload work supplies.
  • Place signs, cones, and barricades when necessary.
  • Perform daily equipment maintenance (greasing equipment, checking oil, hydraulic fluid, and fueling).
  • Transport heavy equipment following all DOT regulations.
  • Clean vehicles and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold an insurance-acceptable driver’s license.
  • Class A CDL with manual transmission experience.
  • Able to perform hard physical labor.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Report equipment problems.
  • Set-up pedestals.
  • Drive ground rods.
  • Read telephone and/or CATV prints.
  • Operate equipment (backhoe, trencher, plow, box pusher, tamper, boring).
