Overview:
Knowledge Services is seeking a Tax Analyst to work in downtown Indianapolis!
Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm
$17 per hour

Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of compliance examinations, control and public assistance duties relative to the preparation, payment and collection of various state taxes in an efficient and effective manner with the highest level of customer focus and accuracy. The primary focus is to improve the compliance of taxpayers that are currently not filing individual tax returns with the Indiana Department of Revenue. The position requires the ability to independently research and analyze taxpayer information from a variety of sources.
Provides customer service to taxpayers, Certified Public Accountants and tax practitioners by communicating in person, by telephone, or in writing, (correspondence, email and INTax Mail Center) advising, instructing, and furnishing information pertaining to various tax types (sales, withholding, income, county innkeepers, food and beverage, motor vehicle, corporation, etc…) administered and collected by the State Revenue Department.
- Interprets and applies State and Federal tax laws, rules, regulations and other legal resources (Letters of Findings, Information Bulletins, Commissioners Directives, etc) in identifying and resolving technical tax problems.
- Perform in-house desk examinations for both tax liability/refund analyses.
- Assists protest hearing officers and attorneys concerning collection and analysis of determinations, procedures, calculations, and other information related to Claims for Refunds, Utility Sales Tax Exemption Applications, doubtful user billings, other desk audit billings and other related functions during an investigation when necessary for the conduct of a hearing or trial.
- Investigates complaints to determine appropriate course of action. Refer complaints to appropriate area per departmental policy.
- Create new/additional tax liabilities for taxes due
- Completes compliance examinations on various Department of Revenue tax returns and State information in ITS, Federal tax returns, and other related systems to assure accuracy of State tax returns and to refer to Audit and/or Special Investigation Division for review, and contacts taxpayers concerning errors, delinquencies or technical issues.
- Completes compliance examinations to determine the validity and accuracy of amended tax returns for various tax types (sales, withholding, income, county innkeepers, food and beverage, motor vehicle, corporation, etc…) to allow or disallow claims for refunds in ITS and other related systems.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED
- Accounting and bookkeeping experience preferred
- Must have experience with MS Office; Word, Excel
- Good communication skills
- Exceptional ability to communicate technical tax information, orally (via telephone or in person) or in writing using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
