The Opportunity:
We are seeking an extraordinary and experienced Operations Manager to join our team as we rapidly grow as an ambitious scientific organization. Our ideal candidate is a masterful generalist (or skilled in one of the areas below and willing to flex) with a demonstrable bias toward taking action and successfully getting things done. We are looking for a highly motivated systems thinker who is willing to take on whatever responsibilities are most critical for the organization at the moment. This may span the breadth of BizOps (Finance, Internal Process), People (Hiring, Onboarding, Training), and Facilities (Lab, Office, IT).
This person will help us develop structures and processes as we scale to an organization of approximately 150 people over the next five years. While you are able to lead a team on a project and delegate work effectively, you are not above rolling up your sleeves to do the hard work yourself when need be. As an Operations Manager, you will quickly gather information and apply your keen eye for detail to help prioritize needs and make critical decisions.
You will be a part of a small operations team supporting a big mission. We leverage our diverse prior experiences to creatively solve problems and increase efficiencies for the team, so that we can pursue ambitious, curiosity-driven science in a fundamentally new way. Our team is responsible for lab operations, our office and facilities, and business operations across finance, people ops, and internal communications. Ideally you will have experience in scaling teams in tech or biotech. You must be adept at managing many complex and fast-paced projects. We need both your passion for scientific utility and translation and your pragmatic hands-on business experience.
- BA/BS degree or higher
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience
- An understanding of the breadth of operational needs that span a startup in the sciences
- A background in the sciences, preferably the life sciences, is a plus but not required
- The role is not immediately a people management role, but management experience is a plus
- A brief narrative of your professional background, highlighting accomplishments in creating operational improvements
- A description of how you would approach operations in a growing scientific startup
The expected salary range is $125-200k per year with equity and benefits, depending on experience level.
The Operations Manager is part of the Operations team and reports to the Director of Operations.
The position will require the individual to be on-site at our Berkeley, California headquarters.
