POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operations Manager will manage a staff of supervisors and technicians, and be responsible for the overall operations and maintenance of biogas production, collection, conditioning, and delivery systems. This position will travel daily between plant operations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for biogas collection operations and maintenance duties at farms in North Carolina.
  • Direct tasks to supervisors and technicians in daily activities with a goal of optimizing facility operation.
  • Manage staff schedules to stay in compliance with biosecurity requirements.
  • Responsible for grounds and regularly scheduled equipment maintenance coordination.
  • Support supervisors and technicians during maintenance projects on major mechanical equipment.
  • Oversee safe work practices including lock-out/tag-out, confined space permits, and use of proper personal protective equipment.
  • Prepare necessary reports for RAE management team.
  • Perform annual appraisals of direct reports.
  • Review and approve monthly state agency reports.
  • Assist development of O&M manuals and operational strategies.
  • Procure tools and equipment necessary to complete work tasks.
  • Review and edit monthly billing for all routine and extra work.
  • Code and approve accounts payable invoices.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain staff by assisting with recruiting, selecting, and training employees; counsel and discipline employees; perform annual appraisals of direct reports.
  • Work closely with EHS and HR departments.
  • Overnight travel domestically up to 10%
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office and controlled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear personal protective equipment in designated areas.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: while performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs. on an infrequent basis may be required.


KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, business/management, and/or 5 years of relevant experience in industrial operations and/or management.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environment and able to take on different challenges.
  • Knowledge/experience of systems, motors, instrumentation and controls.
  • Ability to interpret data and perform process adjustments to optimize system performance.
  • Troubleshooting of instrumentation and controls is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of PLC controls/communication is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of blowers and refrigeration is beneficial.
  • On call availability for emergencies during nights or weekends.
  • Home computer and internet access to remotely view equipment human-machine interfaces.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
  • Computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required.
  • Requires effective time management, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, contractors, vendors, and other business contacts.
  • Must have a valid driver license and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record report.
