Job Description

The Project:

The project site is the U.S. Army Garrison Hospital, located on the atolls of Kwajalein and Roi-Namur in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, a scenic chain of Islands equidistant from Hawaii, Australia, and the Philippines. It is one of the largest outsourced medical facilities in support of the Department of Defense. Since 2018 International SOS Government Medical Services, has been subcontracted to manage the 10-bed Critical Access Kwajalein Hospital, dental clinic, veterinary clinic, and a medical clinic on Roi-Namur. Kwajalein is a 6.5 square mile atoll where bikes are the primary mode of transportation. The more than 1,500 residents include military personnel, Army Civilians, contractors, and their family members. Kwajalein is home to one of the world’s largest coral atolls and lagoons. The year-round warm and sunny weather supports a variety of activities, such as scuba diving, sport fishing, sailing, and wind surfing. The military base also boasts a movie theater, bowling alley, gym, golf course, ceramics studio, and small shopping areas.

Role Details:

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with tenant organizations/mission partners supporting USAG-KA to support the needs of Human Resources and Safety departments
  • Ensures medical records are maintained in compliance with applicable, policies, procedures, state and federal regulations and statues to include HIPAA.
  • Stays abreast of industry and professional developments. Anticipates changes in compliance, clinical and other occupational related standards and develops and implements responsive policies and work improvement initiatives.
  • Performs and supervises staff performing occupational health physicals and screenings, including but not limited to, spirometry, audiology, vision screening, new hire PE, medical surveillance programs, annual PE;
  • Administer periodic evaluations to determine an employee’s fitness for duty
  • Coordinates with the CMO and employer safety for specialty exam requirements
  • Serves as clinical leader for the department and provides clinical expertise on facility related health/safety issues;
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial occupational medicine department
Education Required:
  • Current & Unrestricted license or authorizing document from any US State, District of Columbia or US Territory to provide healthcare within scope of practice.
  • Associates degree in Nursing is required (Bachelor’s degree preferred) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) certification desired (or board eligible)
  • NIOSH Pulmonary Function Training – Certification
  • CAOHC Hearing Conservation Training - Certification
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).


Other Requirments:

Physical Requirements:
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English to effectively communicate
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • US DOD CNACI clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • A valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
