Position Purpose
The Utility Metering Technician supports Dartmouth’s Engineering and Utilities Department in the maintenance of the Campus’s utility metering infrastructure. The Technician must be proficient, or can quickly learn proficiency, in all aspects of the installation, maintenance, and repair of electric, chilled water, hot water, and steam condensate utility meters. The Technician’s duties include installing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical and electronic meter components, liquid flow monitoring devices, and temperature sensors. The Technician is also responsible for coordinating, troubleshooting, and maintaining meter communication with Dartmouth’s Campus Energy Management System (CEMS).

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Technical school graduate or equivalent education and experience.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Mechanical aptitude and computer skills, with knowledge of all aspects of Windows Operating System
- Aptitude with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and OneNote.
- Proficiency, or willingness to gain proficiency, with software related to meter setup, configuration, and maintenance.
- Skill in maintenance and repair procedures, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, construction, and installation of electronic, electrical, and mechanical control systems.
- Must have the ability to follow complex written and oral assignments and communicate effectively.
- Must be able to work independently under minimal supervision, exercise sound judgement, and have excellent problem-solving skills.
- Must successfully complete and remain certified and compliant in all safety or trades related course work as may be required by the College.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- NH Electrician’s License preferred.
- Solid understanding of device communications protocols including BACnet MSTP, BACnet IP, Modbus RTU, and Modbus TCP communications protocols.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic network communications issues.
- Familiarity with Honeywell EBI and Johnson Metasys building automation systems.
- Familiarity with temporary and permanent water and steam condensate flow-monitoring devices, including electro-magnetic and ultrasonic flow monitoring equipment.
- Familiarity with Schneider Electric, Electro Industries, Flexim, Panametrics/Baker-Hughes, Central Station Steam, and Niagara flow monitoring devices preferred.
- Ability to perform math computations as related to trade, and ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Strong customer service orientation.
