Description

The City of Fishers is seeking a full-time Code Enforcer within the Department of Permitting and Inspections. This role is responsible for performing regular and random commercial and residential inspections to ensure compliance with various city codes (Municipal, Zoning, and Building Codes).

Examples of Duties

  • Investigate tall weeds and grass complaints
  • Low risk building construction inspections as they relate to the site and landscaping requirements
  • Perform Zoning inspections to verify compliance with the standards of the Unified Development Ordinance and various Planned Unit Development Ordinances
  • Policing of the city's rights-of-way and collecting various signs that have been placed illegally
  • Track and manage complaints and inspection records.
  • Write and distribute written notices and violation notices in an accurate and detailed manner
  • Receive and investigate citizen complaints related to code violations
  • Deliver and retrieve files, packets, and other documents as needed, and other duties as assigned
  • Prepare files for the Legal Department to pursue further action if required
  • Participate in snow plowing as needed during winter snow events
  • This position is required to perform on-call duties for after-hours Utility Location on a rotational basis

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED;
  • Valid Indiana driver's license and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle;
  • Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions and terrains;
  • Ability to read and understand various codes, and ordinances with a general knowledge of city government;
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people both verbally and in writing in sometimes difficult and highly stressful situations;
  • Availability to perform on-call duties for after-hours work on a rotational basis;
  • Availability and ability to participate in snow plowing as needed during winter snow events.
