The Weed City Fire Department is located in Weed, CA and responds to all hazard incidents in and around the community of Weed and throughout California. The Fire Department is staffed by a fulltime Chief and Assistant Chief, volunteer Company Officers, volunteer firefighters and volunteer/ resident firefighters. The Weed City Fire Department responds to approximately 800 calls for service annually.
We are hiring an experienced, hard-working and detail-oriented individual as a Recruitment and Retention Coordinator/ Lieutenant. This position is a grant funded postion through FEMA and is scheduled for 4 years. Under direction of a Chief Officer, the Recruitment and Retention Coordinator/ Lieutenant is responsible for recruiting new volunteer firefighters and retaining current volunteers through various outlets including but not limited to incentive programs, training programs, career fairs, school presentations, and advertisements. The recruitment and retention coordinator/ Lieutenant will also respond to all hazard incidents on various Fire Department equipment.
Requirements:
Education, Training and Experience: Any combination of education, experience, or training which would demonstrate working skills to use Fire Department equipment; any education or experience in recruiting or retaining volunteer firefighters, ability to learn proper use of firefighting tools/equipment and to understand\follow written\oral directions and to communicate effectively orally. Should have one year of experience with a Volunteer Fire Department as a Volunteer or student firefighter and/or 1 year as a paid Firefighter. Should be able to lead and supervise other firefighters in daily and emergency operations.
Necessary Special Requirement: upon appointment, should work toward a valid unrestricted California Class B driver’s license or a Firefighter Endorsement and a Firefighter 1 certificate from the State Fire Marshal office. Emergency Medical Technician or Public Safety First Aid required. Completion of a drug test, physical and background check required as a condition of employment.
