Job Description

We currently have positions open for the 2023 season in the following Regional Coordination Centers:

Salem, OR; Sisters, OR; Redding, CA


Pay Ranges

Qualified FFT1 will earn $23.60/hr for Fire fighting ($18.80 Regular Pay + 4.80 Hazard Pay). Drivers earn $25/HR while driving.

Example of a Average FFT1 from 2021:

Average Days 100 (May-September)

Regular Hours Worked: 800

OT Hours Worked: 840

Double Time Hours Worked: 60

Regular Hours Pay: 800 x $18.90 = $16,637

Hazard Pay: 800 x $4.60 = $4,025

Overtime Pay: 840 x $28.35 = $24,806.25

Overtime Hazard Pay: 840 x $6.9 = $5,796

Double Time pay (Work done in CA) 40 x $37.80 = $2,268

Total: $53,432


The Firefighter Type 1
may lead a small group (usually not more than five members) and is responsible for their safety on wildland and dedicated service. The FFT1 supervises resources at the FFT2 level and reports to a Single Resource Boss or other assigned supervisor. The FFT1 works in the Operations Section.

Required Training Completed During your Course

  • Introduction to ICS (IS-100)
  • Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service (L-180)
  • Firefighter Training (S-130 – Field Day Required)
  • Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190)
  • NIMS: An Introduction (IS-700)
  • Wildland Fire Safety Training Annual Refresher (WFSTAR) (RT-130)
  • Firefighter Type 1 (S-131)
  • Completion and Certification of NWCG Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) Position Task Book (PMS 311-14)
  • Ability to pass a WCT (Work Capacity Test/Pack Test) at Arduous Level (Complete a 3 mile walk wearing a 45 pound pack in less than 45 minutes)
  • Employees must be 18 years of age or older.
